About PESCO

Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) is a government-owned public utility that operates under the control of the Government of Pakistan. It was previously a part of the Power Wing of the Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and has its headquarters in Peshawar. PESCO is responsible for distributing electricity to over 4.2 million consumers across all civil districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

In the past, electricity supply services in Pakistan were managed by various agencies, both in the public and private sectors, across different regions. The distribution of electricity in local areas was handled by different regions of WAPDA. To provide more autonomy and representation to provincial governments, elected representatives, industrialists, agriculturalists, and other interest groups, the Area Electricity Board (AEB) Peshawar was established in 1982 as one of the eight AEBs in the country.

Later, the Peshawar Area Electricity Board was transformed into a corporatized entity known as Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) on March 22, 1998. This change took place after the disaggregation of the Water and Power Development Authority. The transformation aimed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of electricity distribution in the region.

PESCO plays a vital role in delivering reliable electricity to consumers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. By operating as an independent company, it ensures better representation and responsiveness to the needs of the local community. With a large consumer base, PESCO strives to provide quality electricity services and contribute to the development and progress of the region.
