About GEPCO

Gujranwala Electric Power Company Limited (GEPCO) was established to serve the areas previously covered by the Area Electricity Board. These areas include Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, and Mandi Bahauddin.

GEPCO was officially incorporated on April 25, 1998, and received its certificate to commence business on June 5, 1998. The management and administration of GEPCO are entrusted to a Board of Directors.

In the 1960s, the Government of Pakistan decided to create a separate authority to handle water resources and the power system network, which led to the formation of the Water And Power Development Authority (WAPDA). WAPDA was responsible for power generation, transmission, and distribution. The power distribution network was divided into eight Area Electricity Boards (AEBs), and Gujranwala was one of them.

In 1998, WAPDA was divided into two main sectors: PEPCO and WAPDA. WAPDA focused on water resources and hydro-generation, while PEPCO (Pakistan Electric Power Company) took charge of thermal generation, transmission, and distribution. Initially, PEPCO acted as the temporary authority overseeing the Generation Companies (GENCOs), the National Transmission & Dispatch Company (NTDC), and the Distribution Companies (DISCOs). The plan was for these companies to eventually operate independently under their respective Boards of Directors.

GEPCO currently serves around 3,098,120 connections, and the average monthly collection for the year 2016-17 was approximately 8,937 million Rupees.
